CVU to Host Historic Gala for Cabo Verde National Soccer Team Ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup
​
Cabo Verdeans United Org. (CVU), a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children across Cabo Verde, proudly announces it will host the Cabo Verde National Soccer Team, the Tubaroes Azuis (Blue Sharks), as they prepare for their historic FIFA World Cup debut in June 2026.
​
This marks an extraordinary milestone for Cabo Verde and the global Cabo Verdean community. As the second-smallest country by population and the smallest country by land mass to ever qualify for the FIFA World Cup, Cabo Verde’s achievement brings immense national pride and international recognition.
​
To celebrate this historic accomplishment, CVU will host a Welcome Gala honoring the national team on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at Venus De Milo, Swansea, MA The event will bring together community leaders, supporters, and fans to recognize the Cabo Verde Football Federation, and the athletes representing Cabo Verde on the world stage, while highlighting CVU’s ongoing efforts to create brighter futures for children throughout the islands.

“Soccer is more than a game, it’s a source of identity and inspiration,” said CVU President Genie Lomba. “Hosting the Tubaroes Azuis gives us a chance to celebrate not only their extraordinary achievement but also the power of community to uplift future generations of Cabo Verdean children.”

CVU was founded 25 years ago, has built 29 playscapes throughout the Island of Cabo Verde and contributed thus far approximately $1.5 million toward projects designed to provide safe, joyful recreational spaces and strengthen communities across Cabo Verde. This gala represents an opportunity to celebrate the team’s success while supporting CVU’s mission to create lasting positive impact for children and families.

CVU is partnering with Boston-based premier Entertainment company, Entertainment Specialists to produce an unforgettable, word-class gala celebrating this historical World Cup moment.
